From a town to a list worth calling

Four steps. The first is free and takes a few seconds; the rest is what a scan does for you.

  1. Check the area. One trade, one town, in the box above. You get the number of matching business listings and an estimate of how many have no website link, so you know whether the area is worth your time.
  2. Pick the trade before the town. The share without a website swings far more by trade than by place. If your first trade comes back with “most have a website”, try a neighbouring one. The ranking is in the best niches for web design clients.
  3. Scan it. A scan sweeps the town or suburb in overlapping zones, inside its boundary, and covers up to 150 businesses, the 150 nearest the centre in a busy area. It loads each listed website to see whether it works, and can keep only the businesses that need a website: no site of their own, or one that does not work.
  4. Decide who to call first. Each business comes with its phone number where one is listed, rating and review count, website status and any social pages found. Sort by what the scan found, then use the notes below to choose where to start.

Prefer to build the list by hand first? How to find local businesses without a website covers the free, manual methods, and how to search for better leads covers which words and areas give clean results.

How LeadSweep decides a business has no website

The free check and a paid scan look at different things, and neither is a guarantee. Here is what each one does.

The free check: listings only, from a sample

  • The count is the business listings that match your trade inside the town’s boundary.
  • The estimate comes from a sample of those listings. We count how many in the sample have no website link and scale that share to the whole count. It is shown only when at least five were checked and at least two had none.
  • A missing website link is not proof. It means the listing shows no website. Some of those businesses have a site they never added to it.

A scan: every business, and every listed site loaded

  • No website found. The listing has no website link, and a search for a site the listing missed did not find one that belongs to the business.
  • A social page instead of a site. When the “website” is a Facebook or Instagram page, it is not counted as a website of their own.
  • A site that does not work. The listed address is loaded. A parked domain, a page that does not load and a page with almost nothing on it are all reported as not working, with the reason.
  • A site with problems. Sites that do load are checked for things like no mobile layout, no HTTPS or an expired certificate. Each finding is named, so you can check it yourself.
  • Unchecked. Some sites refuse automated visits, time out or sit behind a bot check. Those are marked as unchecked. They are never counted as broken, and the “only businesses that need a website” filter leaves them out.
Before you tell an owner their site is missing or broken

Open their listing and search for the business name yourself. A scan reports what it found at the time it ran: a site can be launched, fixed or taken down afterwards, and an automated check can be wrong.

Which ones are worth calling first

Having no website does not make a business a good lead on its own. What the scan shows next to it tells you much more.

What the scan showsWhat it usually meansA way to open
No website, a good rating and plenty of reviewsAn established business that customers already look for, with nothing to click on.Mention their rating, and what someone sees when they look them up.
Only a Facebook or Instagram pageThey want to be found online, but depend on a page they don't control.Offer one place for their hours, services and reviews.
Parked domain, or a page that does not loadThey once bought an address or had a site. The intent was there.Tell them what that address shows today.
A site that loads, with named problemsA fix or a rebuild, not a first website.Name the one problem a customer would notice.
UncheckedUnknown. The site could not be checked.Open it yourself before you say anything about it.
No website, no phone number, few reviewsPossibly very small, new or no longer trading.Leave these until last.

What the lead score adds

On request, LeadSweep scores a lead from 1 to 100 with AI. The score comes with the reasons in plain English, what the website situation is likely costing the business, and a suggested pitch. 85 and above is marked HOT, 65 to 84 WARM, and anything lower COLD. It is built only from what the scan found, such as website status and problems, rating and review count.

Treat it as a sorting aid. The score cannot know whether an owner wants a website or has the budget for one, and a high score is not a promise of a reply or a sale.

From the list to a first message

LeadSweep can also draft a first email for a lead on request, using the same facts. It does not send anything: you copy the draft, edit it and send it from your own email account. Your leads export to a CSV file at no charge, which is how you move them into a spreadsheet or whatever you use to track outreach. More wording to borrow is in cold email templates for web designers.

How common is it?

In our study of 4,370 local business listings, 30% had no website link. Those listings came from the areas LeadSweep users scanned in the US, South Africa, Australia and Kenya between 27 August and 25 September 2026.

  • It is not a random sample. It covers the towns and trades our users chose, so read it as a picture of those markets, not of every business in a country.
  • It counts links, not working sites. A listing with a parked or dead link counted as having a website, and a business with an unlisted site counted as having none.
  • The trade matters most. In the US listings, 45% of barbers had no website link, against about 6% of roofers.

What is free, and what a scan adds

You get
Free check, no accountThe count for one trade in one town, the estimate, and a few shortened business names. A few areas a day.
Free accountCount up to 20 areas a day, and see 3 businesses from one area in full, once.
A scanEvery business found in the area, up to 150: phone number where listed, website status and problems, rating and reviews, Facebook and Instagram pages where found, an email address where one is listed, and CSV export.

Scans are bought once, with no subscription. One scan is $15, or $7 in many countries, and packs of 5, 14 and 30 scans cost less per scan. A scan that finds nothing or fails is given back, and a business already in your list is never charged for again. See current pricing.

AI lead scores and email drafts are not part of the scan itself. You run them on the leads you choose, and each one uses credits. The packs of 5, 14 and 30 scans include credits for them; a single scan does not add any.

Questions

Is the area check free?

Yes. It needs no account and no card. Without an account you can check a few areas a day. A free account can count up to 20 areas a day and see 3 businesses from one area in full, once.

Does "no website" mean the business definitely has no website?

No. The free check reads business listings, so it tells you a listing has no website link. Some of those businesses have a site they never added. A scan goes further and searches for a site the listing missed, but it is still worth looking the business up yourself before you tell an owner they have no website.

How accurate is the free estimate?

It is an estimate from a sample, not a count. We check a sample of the listings in the area and scale the share with no website link to the whole count. The estimate is only shown when at least five listings were checked and at least two had no website; otherwise the checker says a few, or most, have one. A scan checks every business it finds.

Does a business with only a Facebook page count as having no website?

In a scan, yes. A Facebook or Instagram page listed as the website is not treated as a website of their own, and the business is flagged as needing one.

What happens when a website can't be checked?

It is marked as unchecked. Some sites refuse automated visits, time out, or sit behind a bot check. LeadSweep does not call those broken and does not include them when you filter to businesses that need a website, because it has no evidence either way.

Does a high lead score mean the business will buy?

No. The score is a way to order a list, based on the business's website situation, rating and reviews. It cannot know whether the owner wants a website, and it does not predict replies or sales.

Does LeadSweep contact the businesses for me?

No. It can draft a first email for a lead, which you send from your own email account. There are no CRM integrations; you export your leads as a CSV file, and exporting is free.

Which towns and countries does it work in?

Cities, towns and suburbs in almost any country. A whole state or country is too large for one scan, so pick a town or suburb inside it. Results depend on how well local businesses are listed, so thinly listed areas return fewer.

Start with one town

A free account counts up to 20 areas a day and shows 3 businesses from one area in full, once. When an area looks worth it, a scan, paid once with no subscription, covers it: up to 150 businesses.
